I'm very new to this and looking at the other threads here, I may be about to ask for some pretty basic help on my new 80 Titanium.  Question is how do I get it talking to my PC which is running Windows XP.

When I plug the 80 Titanium into the USB port on the PC I get a message on the Titanium that it's connected as a media device.  If I then touch that on the tablet I get a screen on the tablet which gives me the option of connecting as a media device (MTP), or as a camera device (PTP).  However, no matter which one of these I select on the tablet, the PC doesn't recognize it.  If I go to the 'add hardware' function on the PC it has Archos listed with a big yellow question mark over it and it asks me for drivers so the PC seems to be recognising that the Archos is attached, but won't connect with it.  I click on OK to Search for drivers but it doesn't find any.

I'm sorry this is such a basic question, but any help or advice would be much apprectiaed.

Thanks.

I think you have to upgrade your OS
When i had the Titanium, i was able to put files on it and w7 recognized it as MTP.

... or you can install  Windows Media Player 11, it should get MTP working on your Windows XP machine.

I've seen this as well, I don't know if helps...

Cheers.

Thanks very much for your helpful advice.

Yes, I know I'm living in the Dark Ages with XP on a very old PC and that I should upgrade the lot, but the thought of doing that and geting everything off this machine onto a new one horrifies me !!  I've got MP 9 installed so I'll upgrade that and thanks for the link to the MPT download, that's the next step to try for sure, and I'll do that tomorrow and post the result.

Thanks again for your help.

Well, I downloaded the Media Transfer Protocol Porting Kit from Windows and upgraded to WMP 11.  Regrettably still no comms between my PC and the 80 Titanium.

The readme file for the MTPP Kit begins...."The MTP Porting Kit is intended to help partner companies prototype, evaluate and provide feedback on Microsoft's MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) extensions to PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol) currently widely used by Digital Still Cameras."  I'm afraid I didn't understand a word of that or any of the rest of it, and I suspect that this kit it's not really for folks like me, but thanks for the link anyway - it was worth a shot.

Unfortunately the WMP upgrade hasn't enabled it to recognise the Titanium.  The tablet says it's connected as a media device, but it doesn't appear in the 'list of devices' in WMP 11.

So back to the drawing board I think.
