Part of new ARCHOS strategy, the company has recently launched a smartphone line of products with 3 models: an entry level 3.5" model ARCHOS 35 Carbon (79,99€ / £79.99 / ~$105) and two phones bith bigger screens: 5" on ARCHOS 50 Platinum (199,99€ / £179.99 / ~ $260) and 5.3" on the ARCHOS 53 Platinum: (249,99€ / £199.99 / ~ $326). The ARCHOS 50 Platinum is the first model to ship on the market and should be available next month.
Here are our first pictures of this device.
The box recalls the main specifications of the smartphone:
The box contains: the ARCHOS 50 Platinum phone, a charger, a USB cable, a pair of headphones, a micro-SIM to mini-SIM (regular SIM format) size adapter, documentation (technical assistance contact info, a user guide and legal notice)
Back of the device, fully plastic material, you can see a speaker at the bottom.
Double SIM feature: one SIM supports both 2G/3G, the other one only 2G
Glass with full black laminated process
A protective film layer is installed by default on the phone.
Even if the phone screen resolution is limited (qHD, 960x540 pixel), the display doesn't look too pixelated.
The 2000 mAh Li-ion battery is removable, a nice feature.

Hi Guys! I'm from Italy and i want to buy the new smartphone Archos 50 Platinum. I want to know one thing...why on the website of Archos the price is different from this website:
http://www.grosbill.com/4-wiko_50_platinum-183162-mobilite_pda-smartphone_android
You advise me to buy the smartphone on the Archos's website or on the grossbill's website? Thanks for the answers guys
The prices at grosbill.com and archos.com online stores are pretty similar, just below 200 euros, there may be some difference in shipping costs between both.
Unless, you really want to play the early adopter, it's probably safer to wait a few days before ordering, the the availability date for the 50 Platinum has been slipping a lot lately and it's probably safer to wait for the feedback from the first customers who received their order.
Also I recommend reading our product review that will be completed in the coming days to make sure the 50 Platinum fit your needs.
Cheers.

there is a gap between the front cover and back cover, in the left side of the phone (turn the phone with the camera facing up, the gap should be in the left corner, it looks like a space for a stylus)
I tried some tools, scissor, screwdriver, it's just a mess Girlfriend's long finger nails seems more efficient.
Before closing the cover, I've put some plastic tape on the border, it's not the nicest looking thing, but that's all I could find to make it easier to open.
Cheers.

I did not had any problems with the cover , it depends probably on the hands, when you have fingers like some sausages you will not have much success

I still haven't managed to get it to open.
Did you finally manage to open it and put your SIM and battery inside or is it already back to ARCHOS ?
What are your first impressions ?
Cheers.
