Well I've tried this Rom and also the A31 Roms (Cyanogen 11 & 10.2 and Omni) on Slatedroid and this is far and away the fastest and smoothest user experience.
It may not have some of the features that the others do, but is far more day-to-day functional, so thanks for turning a pretty poorly-functional 97 Platinum into a cracking tablet.
A couple of questions if I may:
- Can I change (or flash) different boot images?
- Is there a way to change the effective DPI of the tablet similar to Paranoid Android Roms?
Cheers,
Rob.

I have read about a possible rooted and compatible firmware update on archoslounge.net (forum in French), no feedback has been given yet. The test firmware is available for download here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/w7wr50crslzcwph/archos-4.2.2.img It's an Onda v972 modified firmware (version 3.2.1) with root, TWRP Recovery and few mods to make it compatible with ARCHOS 97 Platinum. Flash with PhoenixSuite (tutorial) Cheers.
Hello,
Can anyone tell me please if this would work with a 97 archos titanium hd. Im desperate to get rid of the black bar home buttons (soft keys) at the bottom to give me a bit more screen. All the apps Ive seen for it require it to be rooted. not bothered about the speed although more battery life would be nice to have.
Hope you can help
regards
Eddie

I've had a question from another user but I thought I'd post to here rather than direct so others can see.
My observations with the Onda v972 image on my Platinum 97 HD
- I used the guide from Doppio with the ROM that's in the previous post - I haven't noticed anything that doesn't work
- It massively improved my ROM and I had a similar 19K antutu benchmark
- I also changed to Apex launcher which works fine
- WIFI is still pretty crap - OK for general use as long as I'm not too far from router, but video streaming is poor. The closer you are to your router vastly improves the battery performance from my tablet.
- Didn't like the DPI so changed it using the free app Textdroider DPI - beware when using this, go carefully
- Got rid of all the unwanted apps using Titanium, no issues
- Battery life is pretty poor compared to more expensive tablets, but I guess you get what you pay for! IF it's fully charged I can get a few hours general use out of it - however this is far better than what I was getting with the stock ROM - make sure you recalibrate the battery using something like Battery Calbration. I also turned off the wifi setting whilst screen off to preserve battery which works well.
- I've tried all the compatible ROMs (Allwinner A31 ROMs) mentioned in this thread - http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/87425-custom-rom-cyanogenmod-102-431-for-allwinner-a31-by-christiantroy-update-2013-11-30/ - Check out the list in the sig of the first post.
- They all worked ok, but didn't give me anywhere near the speed and battery life as modified ONDA v972 image
Hope this helps

Hi, I have now installed CM10.2 and am very happy with it because I can so use bluetooth.
I have now a please.
How can I set back to "Stock Rom" if I have to send the tablet back under warranty? can someone with the "Stock rom" upload it here?
From the Archos website - choose your device here:
http://www.archos.com/gb/support/support_tech/updates_fwm.html
I haven't tried it so can't say if it works or bricks!

Thank you all, i have successfully managed to apply the 4.2.2 image - the device is amazingly smooth and worth the money now! I did have some questions regarding the removal of Chinese apps, i cant uninstall them anywhere, just disable which hides them from view.
Also holding down the power button on brings up a quick boot option, nothing for power off, restart, airplane mode...Is this the same for all users?
I didn't apply the root tool i just went and followed the guide on page 1. I then ran the root patch update file which seemed to have worked.
Has anyone applied step 18 -
"Optional -- install the root update from the post in this thread: http://www.arctablet.com/blog/featured/root-onda-v812-onda-v972-and-allwinner-a31-based-tablets/"
and if so any benefits noticed?
Again thanks to all members for the great help, it's just a shame Archos don't push this update to all 97 Platinum users so they to can experience the benefits and give them a brand new tablet.
Thanks
Anil
