The Archos 101 G9 Turbo using a TI OMAP 4430 CPU running at 1.2 GHz and offering 16 Gb of storage is now available. It sells for 349 euros at the Archos Store in Europe.

Please check our Archos 101 G9 (1 GHz model) review for more details about the device and our Archos G9 specifications, prices and availability for all details on the Archos Generation 9 product line.

We will try to quickly get our hands on a device for a full benchmark.
At 349 euros, this 1.2 GHz model has no exceptionnal value for the money against the competition and it is probably wiser to wait for the 1.5 GHz model using an OMAP 4460 which should be available early 2012.

So if the 1.2GHz tabs have TI OMAP 4430 cpu then I would guess the 1GHz models would have 4430s cpus aswell just underclocked.

If this is true then i'd hope someone comes up with a overclock kernel soon. 😉

Well that's a possibility, but I'd rather think that the 1.2 GHz model is just a 1 GHz CPU overclocked.
1 GHz is the reference frequency for the 4430 at TI web site and datasheet.

TI CPUs usually overclock well, was the case for the OMAP 3 on Archos Gen8.

Hmmmm well I've just checked the 4430s on TI's website and your probably right in saying there just 1GHz overclocked but still If Archos can get a stable oc to 1.2GHz then I'll wait for a oc kernel.

I would presume a hacked version of the 1.2 ghz firmware could be applied to the a 1 ghz model. The drivers might even be there for all the hardware as well... Hopefully it won't take a genius too long to figure out a way of doing that 🙂

Well there are actually 2 turbo models, I don't know if they changed their names actually.

But the 1.2 GHz is 4430 based, 1.5 GHz is 4460 based.

Wrong i tested it on a instore moddle came up as 1.2 ghz clock 4460 based. And the 1.5 ghz isnt out yet. Which could mean 4470 based unlikely but possible. As the 4470 chip comes out Q2 2012

My apologies, it looks like you may be right Wink, I have seen another user on a forum getting a 1.2 GHz using a TI OMAP 4460, the funny part is he had another one, with the same box and same MPN (manufacturer product number) labelled 501862 and it was a 4430.

I hope we get more users feedback so we could issue a warning or recommandation for future buyers.
