HI This is my first posting on this forum so forgive me if i am covering a topic already done. I have just bought my wife an Archos 101 Internet Tablet for Christmas and have set up two pop3 email accounts on it, which work in so far as they can send emails and even collect emails, the problem is that when you refresh the list the emails disappear, where to I have no idea. The same accounts are still active on a laptop and these show, for example, that one of the email accounts has 8 unread emails, i would expect these to be visible in the same email account on the tablet.

If anyone has any clues I would be more than grateful.

By the way, I am reasonably familiar with Andriod having owned HTC phones for 3 years+

What Email client are you using?  Some of them move already read Emails to another section in the client.  Also make sure that when you setup the pop3 account you chose to leave them on the server.  The client may not store them but use them from the server each time you run it.  That is how many Android email apps work.

HI Bob

I have tried the built in Android email client and the K-9 app off the market, same problem with both. I have subsequently worked out that the unread emails that were listed on the previous update are removed on the next scan, rather than it showing all the unread ones, or as I would prefer, a list of the emails read or unread (to an acceptable limit). I also get the same problem to two different POP accounts on two different Android devices. I have an IMAP account setup on my phone and this works fine.

have you used pop 3 befoer and also are you reading themk on more than 1 device if so it could be that the ebail is been downloaded onto that device and deleting off your phone

POP generally connect, retrieve all messages, store them on your device as  new messages then delete them from the server

try switchin to imap

No have not used POP on Android before. DO have Outlook connecting to the same POP accounts but this appears to keep its own list of emails. One of the POP accounts has a web interface as well, similar to Google, and this shows all the emails still there, even after they have been read in Outlook, which I guess implies they are still on the server.

I am indeed looking to try and set it up as IMAP if only Virgin Media could tell me what the correct server names are!!!

I think its step 6 gives you the settings

One of the benefits ofimap is that you get the mail to each device you read on one and it ismarked and read on another

Thanks for that, although it wasn't 100% accurate it provided enough of the missing info to get it working. Ended up downloading Thunderbird onto a windows laptop and used the auto detect feature to work out the server addresses. The outgoing server still went to smtp.ntlworld.com rather than imap.ntlworld.com

So should anyone else want them here goes:-

Incoming Server

imap.ntlworld.com

port 993

Security = SSL (accept all certificates)

Outgoing Server

smtp.ntlworld.com

port 465

Security = SSL

Require sign remains unticked
