Yep, it's official. The Gamepad has a lousy battery.

All reviewers say they are getting around 2-3 hours gameplay or movie watching.

It's rated at 3000mAh , but I'm guessing it really is around 2000mAh.

So……………………………… Let's put a bigger one in there !!!!!

Link to Hailrazer's – Archos GamePad Larger Battery Mod : [[** please register to see this link **]]

I put in a TRUE 4700mAh Li-Po.

Battery life :
Playing : Android Games and N64 Emulation constantly
Screen brightness : Around 85%
Volume : 50%
Wi-Fi : Off

Before mod — 2 1/2 – 3 hours
After mod — 6 hours

This was with the first initial charge. With a full discharge and re-charge it could be higher.

The following users say thank you to hailrazer for this useful post:

Nice that's looks very interesting 6 hous is more like it.
That's how it should be. The battery is a couple of mm thicker does it fit nicely
or do you feel it when holding the gamepad. Also is the gamepad much heavier than before?

I'm Thinking about to also apply the battery mod.

thnx

You can't tell any difference at all when holding it.

It's about 1oz heavier.

Could you please tell us the weight of the original Archos battery?

I'm looking forward to trying this mod, but if there's a remote chance that I could get a battery with equal weight (or even less) then it would be even better.

A bigger battery will weigh more. Laws of physics and all that.

I wonder if it fits well and is thicker. If so is a good option. I await your response. Thanks

Si se pudiera comprar esta batería en Europa ya seria total

Finally managed to mod my Gamepad with a new battery, didn't buy a battery from [[** please register to see this link **]] because the delivery cost are too much, I could not find a battery here in the netherlands or europe for a nice price so I went for this one:

[[** please register to see this link **]]

Although It's from china and not recommended by Hailraizer but It could not be worse than the stock battery from archos.
It took 4 weeks to receive it but I got it. It fit's perfect with some modifying of the corners of the battery.
Now I will see how long it will last.

Also bought this one: http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/216822243.html
and it is a little smaller and would fit somewhat better I think but this one is 4000 Mah and the other is 4400 Mah so I when't for that one.

The gamepad is somewhat heavier but I like it better feels more natural for a tablet.

Hailrazer I followed the tutorial and worked perfect thanks a lot now I'm a lucky owner of a Gamepad with a better battery and also a new d-pad (from a snes controller, took some time to get it perfect but now all is great)

no not yet it's saying that I still have 52% but I did not delete the battery stats and want to drain it first completely so I can charge It fully. Have you got any suggestions how I can measure the battery life the best way? did you use a timer or something :) and did you wipe the battery stats

I also tried this mod with this battery:

[[** please register to see this link **]]

Unfortunately, after the installation the Gamepad turns on with the regular screen

for a few seconds and  then turns off and stays blank. After appr. 2-3 hours of charging the same. There is

a slight noise from the mainboard ("tick-tick-tick" like a fixed rhythm) while the Gamepad is connected to the usb charger (wall). I desoldered the new battery and put the old one in, but the results are the same (also the sound stays the same)!

HELP would be MUCH MUCH appreciated!!!SurprisedCryConfused

If you put back in the old battery and it is still messing up, I'd say you did something wrong and fried the pcb. But I don't know how you did it, so I can't offer much advice.
