Well I got my Archos Gamepad in the mail.
I updated the firmware and then rooted it. Installed some Emulators and started playing.
I LOVE IT !!!
Yup that d-pad....... Not so good
So I took out those 4 buttons and put in an Nes D-pad
The one thing I didn't like about the mod i that the original buttons are cloverleaf shaped. I was going to use a PS2 D-pad as they are similarly shaped. But it wouldn't work without modding the button holes to much. So I went with the Nes D-pad, which I actually like a lot better than the PS2 D-pad anyway.
But that is why the d-pad housing is cloverleaf shaped and not perfectly square like the Nes D-pad.

I'm trying to mod my gamepad following your tutorial and I noticed a couple of things and I'm not really satisfied with my result maybe I want it to be too perfect.
I wanted to mod the device because of games like super streetfighter II for the Snes, and I can not the Hadoken/Shoryuken moves and I think it's because of the tape that you need to put because the Gamepad is lower on that side. Can/Will you report how these work with your gamepad? I also noticed that I made the D-pad a little bigger then your's , isn't your d-pad to small? because I found mine to be a little bit easy to move around in the d-pad case.
I'm also going to try the battery mod but haven't received the battery yet.
