Following the instructions in the OP I was failing to get the GamePad into Recovery/Flash mode. But then I found the way below on this forum and that worked like a charm!

3) Connect your tablet with USB cable in Flashmode: switch it off, and connect it while you hold the VOL- & Vol + button.

Win7 x64, dec updates

Followed instructions and got "idb prepare failed". Device was booting only in recovery mode and had black screen. It was still recognised by OS. So i tried flashing again - second time it passed "idb prepare" and failed "idb download". Next time it passed download and install and failed on checking firmware. But after reboot tablet turned screen on and restored firmware.

Maybe it's worth to mention that each time I used another usb port with the same cable. Otherwise Batch tool failed on checking device (1st step).

Hello to everyone!

I want to root my Archos Gamepad! But no Chance! I've reed all about the Asus Gamepad in this Forum.

But always there is a Problem with the Drivers!

I buyed my Archos Gamepad last Week! And have tasted Custom Firmwares, Root's and Swaps! But it does not matter whether it is Rk_Batch tool v1.5 or v1.7, Archos Rk_Toll v1.35, or ADB, always "there is no device found".

My System is Windows 7 ultimate 64bit! I've installed the newest Drivers in the Android-SDK-Manger "no device found"

Installed the amd64 Windows 7 Driver von Rk-Batch tool! "no device Found"

I've used USB-debuging Mode on my device for ADB. "no device found"

But alway's it's no Problem from Soft-Brick to re-install the Original Archos Stock Firmware Update from the Archos Server! And also it's no Problem when the device is on! Then i connect it via USB! And lo and behold! Found the Device installing Software! RK30 Device found! Can Access the media Storage on all! "No Problem!!!" 8-O???

Please, can you help me? It would be so nice to have finally a rootet device!!!

So actually my device is still running on the on original Stock Firmware:

ARCHOS GAMEPAD

Android-Version

4.1.1

Kernel-Version

3.0.8+

Build-Number

RK30_ANDROID4.1.1-SDL-v1.00.00

V1.0.29

is this procedure of rooting correct like u did guyz?

Developper Options -> check USB debug is on

Hold Volume - and power to shutdown your tablet

Install drivers in Rockchip_batch_tool

Launch 'RKBatchTool.exe' in Rockchip_batch_tool

Green square in RKBatchTool.exe = Gamepad is connected

Select the rooted firmware and click 'Restore'

Wait... (don't freak out)

Gamepad reboot, the Android make an installation and.... Reboot

i found that in another forum i hope it works for me :) thanks for the fw

"connected tablet to usb, switched off the tablet, then pressed vol+,vol-, poweron at the same time. The tablet was still showing me a black screen (no archos logo), but Win7 complained suddenly about a missing driver. I went into the device manager,  "  then

I want to add something for the guide, when you have to go to control panel > device manager (windows 7 x64), select device that has a missing driver and do a right mouse click > update driver software > browse my computer for driver software ,then select the file Rockchip_Batch_Tool_v1.7.zip - Rockchip_Batch_Tool_v1.7 - RockusbDriver - x64 - win7    THIS FOLDER , UNCOMPRESSED/UNZIPPED BEFORE.   after the installation, launch rkbatchtool, browse and select update.img  (rooted firmware, unzipped before), and click down to RESTORE . wait few minutes. after the restarts the device should have a root access (check with some utilities taken from google play) also with usb debugging to  off ,for me ... i think

I advise to use then ghost commander (again search in google play, is free app) and directory bind, this second application taken from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410262   (browse in that page from the gamepad with the browser then download the apk from there, then install apk file from the inside of gamepad, are like .exe programs in windows.. )
With directory bind you can put the big files of games in the external sd and bind/link those folders to the internal memory of archos gamepad, so the device thinks that the games are in the internal memory instead of the external micro sd...   So you can save big spaces from the internal memory !

Big files of games should stay in /SDcard/Android/obb/folders of games ....  but that path is inside the internal memory of gamepad.  While the normal path of the external sd card is /mnt/external_sd/folders of games ,to me, i dunno if there is something different in your gamepads..

Bought an old Gamepad.  It's new from Adorama for $70.

Still has the original firmware.  Archos does not show new firmware in the download location for this device.

Having trouble rooting because I have Windows 10 and I don't see compatible drivers.

HELP?!

Negative. There are no Rockchip driver for Win 10, yet. Best is to use a PC with Win 7.
