Wheres the source code for the archos gamepad 2 ?

Also it possible to make custom roms like 4.4 kitkat ? The jxd7800 has kitkat and that uses same soc and rockchip etc.

Archos has the source code, but they never released it. And because of lack of kernel sources, no KitKat. Perhaps it will help if you spam Archos on social media or their customer support.

Thanks for that, surely they have to release the source code do they not.

Is it not illegal if they don't because the product is being sold?

So this source is needed to make a kitkat rom ? Can a standard RK3188 kernel source not be used? Does it need to be specifically the archos kernel source?

Sadly, it's quite common for Chinese sellers or their "distributors" not to comply to the GPL where they should publish source code.

Some brands like Odys (Germany) or BQ (Spain) did a better job and have provided Linux Kernel source code for many of their products.

Archos did it too for some devices, but it's just for a few and older tablets. On the GamePad (first version of the tablet) there were some serious issues with the source code that Archos never seem to care fixing, see here:

http://www.arctablet.com/blog/forum/archos-gamepad/kernel-3-0-36-for-archos-gamepad-and-android-jb-4-2-2/

As exelletor suggested, Archos may consider the source code request if many people ask for it but there is nothing sure. In the end, boycotting these "manufacturers" that don't properly support their customers is probably the best way to show dissatisfaction.

Cheers.
