Update.img is a complete image which you need to use when you want to completely restore the firmware on your device.

what is the difference from update.zip ?

where you can download update.zip ( http://www.archos.com/us/support/support_tech/firmware.html?g=zip1 ) is written :

Firmware is another name for Operating System (OS) or System Software. Below, you will find the instructions and the latest software to update your specific ARCHOS device. You do not have to install all the updates, only the most recent one. Each update takes into account all the previous updates unless specified otherwise.

The img file also contains the kernel, recovery etc images and is the full firmware image, while the .zip is just a firmware update. If you mess up something on your device(for example if you put 101XS2 firmware on your gamepad to see whether it will work), you will need the full img image to restore your device back to normal.

Now i understand , and how to delete all the internal storage?   Maybe is the right way to make it recognize my microsd 32 gb (kingston microsdhc 32gb class4)  that is now recognized 1 time yes and 1 time no,  after a restart it is not recognized, i have to restart it again to make it recognize by gamepad 2.

Maybe i can answer to my question:

1- make it overwrite by put update.img in storage folder root. and make it overwrite all the internal files.

2- using factory default reset , the factory reset in the updated android image version for gamepad 2 can be found in settings -> backup and recovery… -> factory reset.

To flash an image file(.img), you need a pc(preferably windows) and a flashing tool like RKBatchtool. Please notice that it will wipe your complete setup with apps, data, root access(if you have one) and other goodies. For example, you can use the following program:

http://www.arctablet.com/blog/featured/flashing-your-rockchip-rk3188-based-tablet-with-rockchip-batch-tool-v1-6/

However, I doubt it will fix your sd card issue(btw, did you try with mounting/unmounting it etc.), but you can always try if you want.

Please explain better how to mount/unmount  (also with a command) a microsd. and how to check if android see the microsd..

At startup (desktop)  in settings > memory   -> sd card

is written:

"install sd memory - insert a sd to mount"

but the microsd is already in its slot !

this happens 1 time yes and 1 time no after each device start.

but after this i must say that i can eject microsd manually and i put it inside again and at this point gamepad2 always recognizes the microsd the way it ever should.

i  tried this 32gb microsd in archos gamepad 1 (i have also gamepad 1) and it works well, it is always recognized there and works always. it is recognized at every device start in the gamepad 1.

furthermore i tried a "16gb microsd class6 samsung" in the archos gamepad 2 and it is always recognized at every device start.

I want to know  how gamepad2 check the microsd at startup, if there is a file and a line that commands the microsd check at startup, and now it works 1 time yes and 1 time no. the problem is in the microsd check at startup.

Well, with unmounting/mounting I meant the option with the settings together with ejecting it manually. I am afraid there is not an easy solution available to make your gp2 recognise it each and evry time at start-up and frankly, I have no idea why it only happens one in two times... You could try to contact Archos, but they are not doing much in terms of customer support lately... I hope you don't restart your gp2 too often so the trouble won't be too much.

At worst i put the 16gb microsd  in gp2 and the  32 gb microsd in gp1.

Hello to everyone

I have a Gamepad 2 from Archos and I'm having problems, it does not start. It just display the Archos Logo all the time. I wanna try to do the factory reset, but I can't download the files, it ask me for user and password.

Does anybody know the user and password? O someone can help me with the files?

Thanks a lot
