Yes, you can re-flash the tablet to stock using the firmware provided on Archos website

Hello,
I tried to root my archos 80XS in different ways but always with the same result ...
Archos Method (copy files in the root etc), Rockchip_Batch_Tool_v1.7 (upgrade and restore)
Just installed and after the initial configuration all OK.
But after the first boot the GPS does not work more!
I reinstalled the original firmware and everything works perfectly with the CWM to make backup.
There are other ways to root the device?
Many Thanks...

I sadly had no luck rooting this using the Rockchip Batch Tool (windows 8.1 on this laptop most likely to blame). Getting ADB to connect required making an .ini file in a user directory with the hardware ID in it (instructions for that are on the Archos website). However installing the drivers for ADB to work on windows 8 need a stupidly circuitous method to disable the forced driver signing. And in windows 8.1 the method is a bit different.

Anyway once I had managed to get adb to see my device, i tried the adb command mentioned earlier in the thread to restart it in flash mode. It was however impossible to get any driver to install for the 80xs at that point, so the Batch Tool couldn't see it.

I did several things after this and did manage to root the archos 80xs, i'm not sure which things were unnecessary though. Firstly I put the update.img file Admin uploaded in the device root, booted and chose to install the update. This didn't seem to change anything though, but it may have been all that was need before the last thing I did.

After that I put the update.img file on the microsd card, booted the device in recovery mode (volume up and power held until it turns on and you see the dead looking android). Confusing part at this point is to access the recovery menu on this device, you then need to hold volume up, then press the power button for about 2 seconds, and release volume up first (might be the other way around).

In this mode I updated from the SD card, booted, all seemed the same. Then I downloaded a superuser apk, and installed it by connecting the archos to my computer, and using adb install filename.apk

Installing Superuser from the device itself didn't seem to work. Hopefully this will help someone make some more sense of how to root it without using the Rockchip Tool. I might flash it back to the original firmware at some point and work out exactly what I did correctly and write a clear step-by-step guide.

Will have to reinstall windows before that though because many of my problems were based there too.

Thanks to admin for the firmware update.
