Please let us know on how your RMA goes, I'd like to know if Archos support has improved
Well ... up to now, the football result would look like
good vs. bad 1-1
I had zero feedback on my web tickets, then I escalated this on the phone. Since then, they moved and called me every 2nd day with the result of "lets do RMA now". I will keep you posted.
That's already something... many users who placed RMAs never even get called back !
Good luck with your RMA, I'm moving the topic to a separate thread

Thanks. When I called them, I introduced myself by saying:
My name is xxxxx, I am working in an IT company and I am responsible for Customer Service in that company - so I have an idea how Support tickets should be handled. Now let me tell you my story with Archos support ...."
Perhaps that helped

OK, here is the promised update on the RMA:
finally, after 5 weeks, I received a brand new 80xs in exchange.
Brand new really means a new box, sealed including all parts like charger, manuals etc. And the SD card issue seems to be gone. I have it now for about 48 hours in stress test mode. So probably it really was a hardware issue with my sd card / battery drain story. Android version and builds are still on the same versions as on my original device.
In between those 5 weeks zero active communication from Archos. I called them once (after three weeks) to get an update. There I learned that over here in Europe (I live in Germany), hardware support structures have just changed. You now send the item in your country to a logistics partner and they ship all the broken stuff to France where RMA topics are handled for all of Europe centrally. I received my replacement with FedEx in 12 hours ... after having waited for 5 weeks ...
... and for the last two days I really enjoyed it ... lovely piece of hardware - if it is working.
Thanks for your feedback, glad to hear you now have a working device ... and ARCHOS RMA is getting a little better, 5 weeks is still way too long
