Hi,

My auntie & my Gran (who are both in their 80's) have been talking and they've decided my Gran needs a computer so that they can video Skype.

I think this is a brilliant idea, but thought a tablet might be better than a PC. It doesn't have to have all the latest gizmos, she won't need gps for instance, but I would like it to be able to deliver good video calls on Skype and to have access to the Android Market, so that I can download things like the BBC iPlayer for her. I'd also like there to be a decent app for viewing digital photos and a simple to use music player.

Can anyone offer any suggestions please?

Thanks!

I can suggest not to go with any Arnova G2 model that currently does not support Skype.

Archos Gen8 tablets are great devices, the 70 IT is quite light but screen is rather small 7", you may prefer the 10" on the Archos 101 IT. Skype should run on it, but this needs to be confirmed, if there are Archos 101 IT users around...

Actually the 101 IT was choosen by a company called Memo to make a brand new interface for Senior persons. /blog/archos-tablet/memo-tablet-helps-elders-with-short-term-memory-loss/

Thanks, that's really helpful, I appreciate your response. The memo software is genius but expensive for what it is.

I just gave the Memo as reference to illustrate the fact that Tablets are good devices for Senior people.

It's probably not well suited for your Auntie & Gran if they're not affected by short term memory loss.

Please keep us informed how it goes with your device choice and its usage, could it be Archos or anything else.

Thanks.
