Hello guys, I learned to make the porting of clockwork on all tablet recovery.

What are ClockworkMod Recovery and Recovery?
When we turn on our phone the boot sequence (boot) is as follows:
Bootloader -> Android Rom.
But by holding the Power button + VolumeGiu you can alter this process, making it: Bootloader -> fastboot.
Fastboot mode is a very sparse graph screen that allows to perform some basic operations, including: normal startup of Android Rom, restart the terminal, the terminal off, start the Recovery. Going through the volume rocker, voice RECOVERY is possible to start another software preinstalled by the manufacturer, which aims to flash (install to internal memory), ROM (without our knowledge happens when we do system updates, but service center is also useful in case of software problems).
The recovery tool is then present in all terminals, but by default has many limitations, which only allows you to flash the original ROM (make a check before the flash). The ClockworkMod Recovery is not nothing but a modified recovery, to offer more options, but also to allow you to flash anything! Of course you have to flash only software compatible with your device, otherwise nothing will work.

If you want to port your tablet you have to provide me with the boot.img of the tablet.
You have to do root access!
To do this download this file: http://www.4shared.com/file/2BZEv6BD/dump_image.html
The root of the tablet and placed in a terminal or from adb shell enter the command: dump_image boot boot.img
Once this is done you will find in the root of the tablet in the boot.img file, save it to your PC, upload and I will do the porting!
After from shell give mount command and paste the output

That's a really great initiative.

Do you think you'd be able to make one for Arnova G2 models Rockchip platform based ?

G2 devices on Rockchip use cramfs for /system partition.

On Rockchip platform, there are specific tools for dumping the boot image from the system (rkdump) or we can extract it from the update image. I can prepare a dump of all volumes and point you to unpacking instructions so you can have a look at boot and recovery images.

Maybe other devs (fenice57 ?) are also working on improving the recovery on Arnova G2s ?

You'll find the Arnova latest stock firmware here:

http://www.arctablet.com/assets/firmware/Arnova10G2/Arnova10G2_stock_firmware_20111010.zip

Each image (boot, system, recovery ...) extracted from the update.img

http://www.arctablet.com/assets/firmware/Arnova10G2/arnova10g2_stock_unpacked.zip

Finally, I have extracted boot and recovery images for you:

http://www.arctablet.com/assets/firmware/Arnova10G2/boot_recovery_extracted.tgz

If you want to extract them yourself, you can do the following, for exemple with boot.img :

- unpacking with rkunpack boot.img (from Steve's scripts or rkutils here)

- mv boot.img-raw boot.img-cpio.gz

- gzip -d boot.img-cpio.gz

- mkdir unpacked; cd unpacked ; cpio -idm < ../boot.img-cpio

System.img is using cramfs.

Let me know if you need anything Wink

Sorry, looks like the server caching corrupted some links, I have corrected them.

I would love to see this.  Note, however, that a couple of custom ROMs for the 10G2 are running ext3 and/or ext4 partitions.  CWM on many Android phones doesn't seem to have an issue with that (and other recoveries like Amon Ra even let you change from ext3 to ext4 and back on the fly through recovery.)

It just kills me that the recovery on this tablet is so brain dead.  You can't even do a nandroid.

I  am going to tell you folks something right now.  NO WAY will there ever be a CWM mod for Arnova ROM's until it is repacked like RK28 or other ROMs.  That is, kernel is in boot.img with a RAM disk!

If kernel is a seperate .img, it will never work inside recovery EVER!

So those that have found a recovery that gives you a menu (Like Fenice's supplied) will still never be able to dual boot or do anything like that without kernel as part of boot.img.  OR someone rewrites recovery to have a mini kernel, or something along that line!

So I am telling you right now do not hold your breath for a REAL CWM.  Sure you will get a working recovery menu but it WONT do much!  I am working on repacking rk29 with kernel inside boot.img but really.... until then...  any recovery that gives you a menu, still wont do much!

Sorry DanielVD but the cat is out of the bag!  Fenice recovery menu is all nice but what really does it give you?

However, I came across a new tablet called the MOMO7.  It's RK29....  But it is built like other CWM ROMs.  Cracking it made me learn something new.  There is a TRADE OFF having kernel in boot.img.  SLOW BOOT... But you can actually make a CWM I believe.  HOWEVER.......  I need kernel source!

Can everyone please pressure Arnova to give up the kernel source code!  I have Emailed and called but NO RESPONSE!  They are required to give it up under GPL licensing but when you cant get someone on the phone that knows what your asking or get a Email response, it's like talking to a wall!

Public pressure please 🙂

Daniel, check out the MOMO7 ROM.  I have found that the Arnova will support the old boot.img style of kernel inside boot.img with a RAM disk!!!

I cracked the MOMO7 ROM and moved the kernel outside of boot.img and made a new ROM like Arnova with a seperate kernel.img.  It worked!  So now the reverse is true.

I think this will give great success with getting a CWM ROM.  Anyway have a look.
