Most of us have gotten Google Apps and Market to work on our tablets in some way. But then when we go to the Google Market, either on the tablet or via the PC browser, there are apps we can't get because Google has determined we can't have it on our "unknown device." In my example, I wanted the news app for a TV station in Fort Wayne. Google Market said I couldn't get it. Was also not on Amazon, GetJar, or SlideMe either to get. But I was determined to get it and try installing it. How I got around things was to get Wondershare's MobileGo app and Windows Program. I loaded the app on my LG Optimus V and my 10b G2 tablet. Then I went into the windows program and started it and got my phone connected. I exported the app (since I had it on my phone already) to my PC. I disconnected the phone and told MobileGo to connect to the tablet. It did. I then told the Windows program to Install app from PC. I selected the exported apk and sent it to the tablet. The install window came up as it does for any install with the access and permissions and all and I clicked Install. This particular app installed and then ran. But Google had stated the app could not be installed to the tablet because the way our tablet appears to Market. Notice that not all apps will install in this way. Notable exceptions are the ones from DoApp and Raycom Media and there are others as well. But if you have a phone you can get an app to, get the app and export it to the PC and then sideload the apk. Worst I have seen it will do is say "Application Not Installed" or if it does, the app will freeze up when you try to run it. I made a point to send an e-mail to an Evansville station owned by Raycom to tell them I was very disappointed in them for not making their apps more openly compatible. We'll see what happens. Be well 🙂
And if anyone knows outside of rooting or custom rom how to "rename" or make tablet appear as a compatible item in Google Market, please pass it along.Maybe some other apps can be gotten directly after that. Also, I have tried every item possible towards rooting my 4GB 10b G2 without success. Pass that along too if you can. Mine is Dual Touch Resistive. Thanks 🙂

In partial answer to your last paragraph, it may not be necessary to doctor the tablets themselves, but the market apps. For example if you search for getjar.modaco.apk you'll find a patched version of Getjar that thinks you're a Samsung Galaxy II. It works fine but uninstall any 'normal' Getjar app first. If only someone could come up with something similar for Android Market - I'm fed up with the web-site version referring to my Arnova as 'the phone used in February', whereas my pair of HTCs are fine.

Here is something weird....
I have been able to use Wondershare's MobileGo to export some apps off my LG Optimus V. I have placed said apps on my 10b G2 and some have installed, some have not. Now for the weird part. The ones I have gotten to work, market says I need to update them so I click on the thing to update and it goes to the correct market page. It is then I am told "Your device is not compatible with this app" and I can't update it. So it looks like every time I update on the phone and replace one of the said apps, I'll have to update there and then extract and sideload I guess. Also am finding out there are different package signatures among the app stores for same apps (Same version and all.) In trying to update on google market my WTTE Fox28 app as well as Go Launcher which I had gotten from Amazon originally, it said package signature didn't match. Said to uninstall the app and install the new version. So you click uninstall in that message, it uninstalls, and then you click install or download when the Google Market page refreshes. App is installed and all is well. No idea why about package signatures being different, but it is that way with ones gotten originally from AppsLib and Amazon when you try to update on Google Market. Oh well.... more to explore. Be well peeps 🙂
