Hi all,

Bought a Arnova 9G2 (right Forum?)for my wife for Christmas. She only uses it for very basic activities, specifically surfing the net and playing Angry Birds! This is why I bought this one - lovely looking and well made machine at bargain price that does everything she needs. The machine has original firmware etc. and and not been rooted etc.

All has been fine until a couple of days ago when for no apparent reason Angry Birds would not not lauch, throwing up some form of "can't find Library" error (can't remember exact wording).

I have a good few years windows knowledge, but very little Android so tried the following steps :

1. Tried to Launch the appslib with a view to re-downloading Angry birds. Appslib failed to launch - similar "can't find Library" error.

2. Mmm - looks worrying so tried other apps etc by opening downloaded pdf files - open office - you guessed it, "can't find Library" error. Browser still working fine btw and rest of machine working

3. Ok, something major corupt in here in running dowloaded programs so decided a complete reset required but wanted to save the Angry Birds scores/levels acheived etc. Did a quick google and found that should have LUA files down in data/rovio etc. etc., so

4. Used files programme to view folders with a view to copying off for reload later - looked everywhere, cant find files and Data folders appear blank. Thought blank files maybe administrator issue so looked in Location and security settings/select device admins - "No available device admins" and no option to add or change -Mmm.

5. Connected to PC and copied whole device onto PC and used explorer to view files - same issue - data folders where angry Birds data supposed to be all "empty". Tried "USB debugging" option in applications/developement and re- copied files, no change.

6. Gave up and reset to factory settings, chossing not to erase SD in the vain hope that ome data may be retained. All reloaded, all up and running fine again but all bookmarks and Angry bird Data lost.

Not an incredibly massive issue but annoying so just wondered whether by any chance the lost data is on the PC and I just cant see it, it which case it could be reloaded back if I could view it, select it and copy back? Are there any tools avialable to do this?

I have now since dowloaded "Angry Birds Backup" and "Bookmarks Backup" from the apps lib in the hope that these will work if kept up to date and we get the same issues again at some point however would love to:

a: Understand why I cant find or see the Data files

b: Copy back the lost data if it is on my Pc.

Sorry for the long post 🙁

Cheers

Derek

Applications data are hold in /data directory which normally can't be accessed on a non rooted tablet.

You'll either need to temporary root your tablet (which doesn't work all the time on Arnova G2 devices) or use a custom firmware that provides root. Then you'll be able to browse all the tablet directories thru Root Explorer, ES File Explorer or similar all, copy the files to a SDcard or another directory that is accessible to your PC.

There may be other options specific to Angry Birds application, if the editor has design the program to backup/restore its data, but I don't think that's the case here.

Cheers.

Hi, Thanks foryour reply. I half expected that it would need to be rooted, just wanted to be sure. As I copied the whole device onto PC (by simply dragging the whole device), will the files that I cannot see inside the /data folder actually reside in the pc copy? If so, I could in theory copy the /data folder back (leaving the other directories created by the reset in tact). I could just try this but want to avoid too much resetting/rebuilding. (EDIT) Just realised, if I cant see the contents directory its unlikely to allow me to overwrite it either, without rooting of course.

Thanks

You'll probably get an empty data directory on the PC, as the files can't be listed/accessed on a non rooted device.
