I just recently purchased a 101xs and am finding that the signal strength I am getting on my device over wifi is extremely poor and is kicking me off of the web constantly. I am using WPA2 and all my other devices in my house get excellent signal, so I am wondering if it's something to do with the device itself? Can someone tell me? Should I return it?
Hello Lasha,
I used an ARCHOS 101XS in the past, from what I remember the WiFI performance was OK, not excellent I admit.
I used the 101XS not very far the WiFI Access point (something like 5-6 meters and 3 "small" walls away) from what I remember, encryption was set to WPA/WPA2 mixed mode.
Have you tried to get your tablet next to the Access Point, is the connection faster and more stable ?
Can you compare the graphs with your other devices with apps like WiFI Analyser when you get away from the Access Point ?
Cheers.

Hiya, thank you fore responding to my query.
I will try and download a WiFi analyzer onto the tablet and see what happens when I am close to my access point.
However, yes I have put it beside my modem and the bars go straight up to full strength, but when I move over to the couch it drops down to 1 small bar or none or I lose connection completely. This is only about 3 metres away and now interferences such as walls or doors. All my other devices are getting "excellent" strength. I've even turned off all my other devices thinking this might be slowing down me getting a decent connection, but that makes no difference.
Do you think it's faulty or is this a know issue with this type of tablet from Archos?
cheers,
Lisa
Hello Lisa,
As I said from what I remember, the WiFI coverage on the 101XS was not excellent, but it was good enough under normal conditions. The 3 meters from your router to the couch should not get the WiFI indicator that low (1 bar or nothing as you said) unless there are lots of interferences and a lot of WiFI traffic (with many devices/AP in that room) which doesn't seem to be the case here.
Obviously this is barely usable and it probably makes sense to return the product. The ideal option would probably be to test another tablet if it's a shop in the street, your issue looks like a faulty device to me, WiFI coverage on a "normal" 101XS should be really better than what you have currently.
Cheers.
