Google is starting to deploy their new Android Market version 3.4.6 update, which is now named Google Play.

Thanks to Quinny899, KyojinKun and Nalty from xda-developers.com, the application file updates are available right now:

Google Play Store Paid Apps: Available in these countries
Google Play Movies: Available in US, UK, Canada, and Japan
Google Play eBooks: Available in US, UK, Canada, and Australia
Google Play Music: Available in US

Google Play update should soon be available from your existing Android Market installation or you can use the APK files to force the update yourself. After the Update, Market application will disappear from your application list and will be replaced by a Play Store icon.

Can't install Google Play Books and Google Play Video (Parse error)

Google Play Books and Google Play Video do not install on some devices and give a Parse error

The reason of the problem is related to the Android version, Android 3.2 Honeycomb (API Level 13) minimum is required. Arnova G2 devices for instance run Android 2.3 Gingerbread (Platform API Level 9)

Here is ADB logcat output on an Arnova 10G2:

W/PackageParser( 844): /mnt/storage/com.google.android.videos-1.apk (at Binary XML file line #33): Requires…

For the record, and I'm repeating this everywhere I can, "Google Play" is a stupid name. I suspect the spiked the lemonade of the focus group that thought it was a good idea.

Can you advise if any fix for Google Play will be available?

I have just flashed this website's custom firmware to my Arnova 10 G2, then installed Market via ArcTools, and it updated to Google Play. It only shows several applications and doesn't allow installing any popular apps.

I've tried the fix with deleting cache as described somewhere here on the forum, but it didn't work.

So any chance that this Google Play will be hacked to work on Arnova 10 G2 with custom firmware? Thanks.

If you run a custom firmware that has root support, can you try the "Reset Market" button in Arctools, then confirm to allow superuser access to purge the necessary files. When it's done, reboot the tablet immediately and restart the Market right after the tablet has restarted.

Can you be more specific about the device, is it an Archos 7 HT (Home Tablet) ? Have you installed a custom firmware ?

Which application do you call Google player ?

I have Archos 7 HTv2 (A70BHT)and installed Birdiebnl's custom firmware Android 2.2.1 (Froyo).

Market is installed however I receive error message - a server error has occurred. Retry or cancel and return to the previous screen.   Market was working several weeks ago. I tried the Android Market fix and it did not solve the problem.

When I downloaded Google Play from internet (not from Arctools) it installed, however it states that my device is not compatible.

It's been a while I haven't checked my Archos 7HTv2, I know that hvdwold is preparing some firmware updates, I'll try to have a look at your Market problem.
