Hi,
I just flashed my recent bought Childpad (Germany Ref. 502153) using the RKAndroidTool v1.29 and an extracted kernel from the test firmware (09/26) and manged this way to get the touchscreen working. I followed the instructions here to get the kernel: http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/19808-rk29xx-imagetools-v21/ or get the file here: http://zarth.de/kernel.img
So far it look promising.

stevedee, medeni73Thanks for that. I'm not sure to get it right, the kernel you have extracted works on your ChildPad and it's different from the existing custom or original firmwares available ? Does it make sense that we use it in a custom firmware image to try fixing the touchscreen issues ?
Cheers.

@dzarth many thanx for kernel extraction. I am almost sure that it means that we flash other custom firmwares where touch function didnt work (Arnova ChildPad&7d G3 Capacitive Android 4.1.1 JB Custom Firmware or Arnova ChildPad&7d G3 Android 4.0.4 + CWM Recovery custom firmware)
and we get working firmwares where we just change kernel file from those packages and point at new kernel file in AndroidTools am I right? Can someone try this out? I just dont know if other "components" from those firmware packages are 100% compatible with this kernel...
It would be also interesting to try out firmwares from freaktab forum with this new kernel, for example this one NEOCM10 Version 1.25 (http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?1881-NEOCM10-Version-1-25)

Looks like there has been a kernel mix in my latest test firmware. I have done a new one verified to use the same kernel as yours (0926)
Kernel version: Linux version 3.0.8+ (root@sc-development-android) (gcc version 4.4.0 (GCC) ) #205 PREEMPT Wed Sep 26 11:52:04 CST 2012
If anyone want to test:
kasty-arnchilpadc-40-050d-2G.zip
If this firmware works fine, I'll rebuild an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean version with it.
Cheers.

Hi,
I extracted the kernel from this version: http://www.arctablet.com/blog/forum/archos-arnova-childpad/arnova-childpad-capacitive-test-firmware-from-official-0926/ because it was not possible for me to get it from the original update.img downloaded from arnovatech.com. It is slicely bigger and from the files time stamp newer the the one in http://www.arctablet.com/blog/forum/archos-arnova-childpad/arnova-childpad7d-g3-android-4-0-4-cwm-recovery-custom-firmware/
Anyhow. This kernel does fix for me the touchscreen issue. As I wanted to have a working google+ and hangout I only tried with http://www.arctablet.com/blog/featured/arnova-childpad7d-g3-capacitive-android-4-1-1-jb-custom-firmware/ so far. From what I've seen is that games work quite fine. Hangouts do not work, audio is OK, but the video freezes immediately. Also the battery was completely drained after 18h in standby (no clue if this is acceptable - I have no device to compare). An other funny thing is that in the settings menu/memory the total amount of memory is now 8GB?
I'm open to run some more tests if you like me to until I've to hand out the device at the 24. of December 🙂

Tested, working fine. Touchscreen is OK. Android 4.0.3 with working play store but no sync of contacts. 1.9 GB internal memory listed as free in settings/apps, but only 567MB total in settings/memory. This is a little bit confusing (at least for me). Goolge+ is not working (forced closed).
Thanks,
Dirk
