As owner of two childpads - I am trying to get an understanding of the device storage in case I need to return mine.

I have asked on a variety of forums but I have not received an answer.

When I plug both pads in to a PC - properties tells me I have a TOTAL of 2GB storage.

Within settings->Storage on the device, it says I have a TOTAL of 2GB.

Is this what others see? 4gb storage is advertised on websites, if I delete all the pre-loaded content, I am only going to ever get 2gb, as this is the total available storage. Unlesss this is hidden elsewhere on the device.Surprised

Could someone please take 2 minutes to take a look and let me know if what I am seeing is what they see - ie 2GB total storage.

Many thanks in advance

The 4 Gb announced storage space is the actual size of the flash memory.

Part of it is occupied by the system (less than 1 Gb) and the installed applications and data (Alvin files). You can remove the data files to save some space (better backup them first as they would be gone in case of a factory reset) but you probably won't get over 3 Gb free. You always have the possibility to extend the storage space using an micro sdcard.

Cheers.

Many thanks for the swift reply.

What I do not understand is how to even get to 3gb. I have only just received my pads and wish to establish if they are "faulty" and to return them or to accept they are fine and to give them to my two year boys for "stress testing".

All the Alvin content - ie movie clips are stored within "Storage" under 'Movies', the pre-installed apps are also in "Storage" under 'APK' - deleting these will free up space but it won't increase the overall internal storage which on mine is showing as 2gb.

Does everyone else only have 2gb of TOTAL storage on their childpad?

Well, because all manufacturers count 1GB = 1000000000 bytes, 4GB is actually 3.7GB. Then, there is an "unvisible" partition of 512MB for the apps(/data/, you don't see that when you connect the childpad to a pc), so you are left behind with 3.2GB. Then, the android software and recovery stuff still needs to be installed, so eventually you only have around 2GB left. So, that's normal, on the ChildPad we have here, we also have 2GB of free storage. 😉
