Hello!

I am using the modded firmware from here on a capacitive Childpad. However, in the sync settings, calendar and contacts show up with an error saying "sync is currently experiencing problems". Looking at other postings here, i suppose the CP simply doesn't ship with those two apps, but since the sync apps are there, i figure it's possible to get them up and running. I saw elsewhere that there was a solution involving a third party calendar, and i'm sure there's a good contact manager on Play as well. But obviously the sync apps don't run for some odd reason.

So the big question is: Is it possible at all to get those up and running, and if yes, what do i need? I know my way around adb, so i'm ready to test whatever solution you throw at me.

Thanks in advance!

If i understand correctly, you want a copy of those two apk files? Here you go:

try this one, don`t forget to set the permissions, first close all the google related apps using the task manager
then delete the old file and add this new one, set the permissions, reboot, and try
if you don`t see any change go on http://goo.im/gapps/ and beggin the trial process till you find something good.
i am using on the arnova 7c g3 the last gapps, and everything is working fine, i don`t know what version of gapps was added for the custom rom.

Same error, both with my normal Google account, with a Google Apps account and with Last.FM.

adb logcat shows this:

E/AccountSettings( 1297): Provider needs a label for authority 'com.android.contacts'
E/AccountSettings( 1297): Provider needs a label for authority 'com.android.calendar'

E/ActivityThread( 264): Failed to find provider info for com.android.contacts
D/SyncManager( 120): failed sync operation (my email address) (com.google), com.android.contacts, SERVER, earliestRunTime 414347, SyncResult: databaseError: true stats []
D/SyncManager( 120): not retrying sync operation because the error is a hard error: (my email address) (com.google), com.android.contacts, SERVER, earliestRunTime 414607

Which of course makes me none the wiser.

Thanks for the logcat info, that may help to debug the problem. We'll have a look.

Cheers.

FYI, i tried to copy over the folders com.android.providers.contacts and com.android.providers.calendar in /data/data from my 7b G2, but it made absolutely no difference.

Thanks for taking your time to help, much appreciated. I use Google Calendar a lot, so it would be nice if there was a solution to this.

Additional info: When running aCalendar and trying to add an entry, i get "No active writable calendar found. Cannot create event.", and when hitting the plus to add a contact, i get "No contact picker available. Broken custom ROM?".

I'm thinking it's some sqlite databases that are missing entirely.

Before I try to re-invent hot water, did anyone already try to install the GAPPS which is available on goo.im ?

maybe something is wrong in the framework?

I'd love to try it out, but flashing it with GooManager just reboots my device right after clicking Flash, and shows me a dead Android with a red triangle afterwards. Are there any other ways of installing it?

1 step closer to the truth Wink

The solution would be the missing files: ContactsProvider.apk and CalendarProvider.apk

I have copied both into /system/app .

The calendar is now syncing fine. But I now get "process acore is stopped" flashing when I activate the Contacts sync. No idea yet how to crack this nut. Confused

Maybe best for the creator of the image to add those to files into his image Surprised

I'll have a look at the problem on Contacts application later and test if our working setup for Contacts & Calendar from the other Arnova G3 is fine on the ChildPad.

When we have something fully working, we'll either add them to the custom firmware or as an application package that can be installed separately from Arctools.

Cheers.

I can confirm that calendar sync does indeed work with CalendarProvider.apk from a Galaxy Note, and ContactsProvider.apk from the same stops acore. This is a huge step forward, thank you bdejonck!

And again, i'd gladly test any solution you come up with on my ChildPad. It's actually been really well behaved since i gave it the 1M firmware. Your help is much appreciated!

My kids just claimed their childpads back, so there the testing will stop. Cry

I kept on looking on internet in regards of the acore issue and found one thing coming back all times.

Go to Settings > Applications > All > Google Services Framework, hit Force Stop Go back a level, go to Gmail, hit Force Stop and Clear Data Go back a level, go to Contacts, hit Force Stop and Clear Data Go back a level, go to Contacts Storage, hit Force Stop and Clear Data

I think it's also nice to replace the galary with the google one (gapps > system>app) Then you will have the picasa sync together with the ability to upload your picture to picasa or send as attachment via gmail. Cool

In case you want to make the contact sync invisible in the account&sync menu, then you best go to settings > app. select all apps and search for contacts and google contact storage. Stop both and then choose to make them inactive. Smile

I tried the Force Stop + Clear Data on all said apps, but the result was the same. Replacing Gallery worked just fine though, thanks for the tip, syncing with Picasa is how my 7b G2 behaves.

Also, i don't mind the sync error in Account & Sync, i disabled ContactProvider so i can at least use the CP without those annoying popups all the time. Would be nice to get it working though, i need an address book on it. As said, any way i can help by testing, just mention it.
