No, you are indeed right, there is so far no official update for the capacitive CP. Apart from that, the 1GB firmware you can find elsewhere on this site runs pretty stable, except for the Calendar (now fixed thanks to bdejonck!) and Contacts issues.

You can always sideload Titanium Backup from http://matrixrewriter.com/android/ if it's not on Appslib.

Thanks for this, without the play store and especially the Youtube app this tablet would have wothless. As a fairly inexperienced Android user I find it amazing that anyone can sell an Android device that can't install apps from the Play store.

The reason for that is the device isn't certified by Google, currently as almost any other tablet based on the Rockchip platform.

This is slowly evolving as some devices such as the Archos 97 Carbon (Rockchip RK2918 based) are now CTS, and more should be in the future.

Cheers.

The firmware we sent to you today has Google Play. The flashing method should be the same as for the ChildPad.

Hello,

Thank you very much for the custom firmware, I installed it without issue  Laugh !!!

I have a question, where could we find the original firmware for the capacitive ChildPad ? I have to take back my Childpad to be repaired and I would like to put it as just "out of the box" ;-)

Thank you

Nicolas

I think you go to the Orginal web site http://www.arnovatech.com en select your Childpad for the standaard firmware.

2x Archos Arnova 7D G3 tablets for my 2 sons.

that would be the case if the poster didnt have a capacitive childpad. The firmware on arnovatech.com is only for resistive (as they write) which will render his devise useless since he cant use the touch screen..

Not entirely useless, if you can flash it once you can flash it twice. Or in other words, you won't brick it, you just have to start over.

But yeah, don't waste time flashing a resistive image onto a capacitive pad, it's just a waste of time and a gain of frustration.

You can actually do this on the 7b G2 but that's another story :)

Just had a closer look on the applibs thats supplied with it (im still waiting for the childpad to get "home" from germany).. seems like it has ES explorer. Wouldnt that mean that i can install the apps i already have on my phone if i just copy them to the childpad? Then i wouldnt have to unlock it to get neither youtube or the kids game that has filled up my phone :)

Offcourse an unlock is never ruled out ;) cause the 1 gb solution would be nice so more programs can be put in.

Yes, as most Android devices, you can "sideload" applications (copy the APK file on the device and run it from a file explorer application). It works for most apps, that do not require some systems libraries and files (ex. Google Play Store).

Im in doubt with that last comment about google play store. does that mean that i can sideload that also?
Eitherway it seems like sideloading titaniumbackup as the first thing would be smart thing to do.

Then youtube (if thats possible to sideload, since i can see the apk in my rooted phone)

Again thanks for this great forum and the speedy answers!

Sorry if I wasn't clear, I meant sideloading Google Play Store is just a bad idea, in the best case you'd get a half functioning store. To get a proper Play Store you'll need a custom firmware.

Sideloading most other apps, including Youtube should be no problem.

Cheers.

and again thank you for clearing that up so fast.

well googleplay wont be an issue, since then i got full control over the tablet, what gets installed  🙂 I just need NOT to make an account on appslib so he cant go fussing in there either ;-)

So without play a bit more work for me, more safety for my kids.

And yes i know that you can make market "safe" for kids - it was more in the line of him not buying apps ;-)
