Hi, Admin

I'm still not very clearly how to enter 97 carbon flashing/recovery mode.

First, Shutdown the tablet, it's right?

Then put a paper clip in the RESET pinhole of the tablet,  push the RESET, holding it for a few seconds (How long? ) then press the HOME button while holding the reset for a few seconds (How long? ) , then release the HOME button and the RESET, it's right? And what's next? In the right step, the tablet can wake up?

When I push the power button or line in pc usb port , the tablet start into normal  mode.

Can you tell me which step is wrong? Get into the flashing/recovery mode, which picture display on the screen?

Thank you very much !

I've installed the firmware successfully.... I believe... since I didn't do it through the Rockchip Batch Tool on account of the fact that my 97 Carbon simply refuses to reboot into Recovery Mode. Very rare occasions I'll get a screen of the Android with a red Exclamation Mark, but nothing else.

When I DO attempt to boot it to Recovery Mode using the Reset/Home method... the table will NOT boot until I press the Reset button again.

On top of that, the 2Gb of storage space has.. NOT increased. I still have 500Mb only. The 'A

About Tablet' information seems to have change since the firmware install, but no 2Gb partition for storage.

So... I ask... WHY do does my 97 Carbon refuse to boot into Recovery Mode? WHY does it not boot until I press Reset? WHY do I still have 500Mg instead of 2Gb?

Any answers, anyone?

The proper way to flash this firmware is to use Rockchip batch tool, as mentioned in the article, not doing so creates all sorts of problems (that includes the limited 500 mb space for apps)

Please check this forum topic where you should find some tips about entering flashing mode.

Cheers.

So you MUST use the Rockchip tool to flash? That sucks... my Archos 97 Carbon NEVER enters the Recovery Mode needed to run the Rockchip software. I've followed the instructions many, many times... but my Carbon is being really stubborn. All I get the Android with a red exclamation/triangle. A screen before that one comes up for a brief second, but then disappears.. and then the Android with red triangle. If I plug the tablet into my PC... nothing happens, and the Rockchip Tool doesn't detect the Carbon.

I'll keep trying, though... and I'll see what happens. Thanks for the reply.

When you are in flashing mode you don`t see nothing on the screen, so maybe when you say that it was not on, actually it was in flashing mode ?

That's correct. The only thing I see is an Android on it's back with a red 'warning' triangle. And if I plug the Carbon into PC at that point, Windows SOMETIMES sees it as an Unidentified Device, and fails to install drivers.

Other times, Windows won't detect anything at all.

The screen I see briefly before the one I describe has an Android standing with what looks something blue moving in his chest... that's all i could see, unfortunately. Plugging the tablet in on this screen... the  Android on it's back, red triangle... results in the PC not detecting anything.

I tried that to. But whenever I plug into my PC, all I get is the 'Windows Connect Failed' noise (the three dings) instead of the 'Device Connect' sound.

I try holding HOME then RESET... and holding RESET then HOME... being connected to PC via USB... not connected to PC via USB.

I've tried the method as mentioned in the actual instruction manual.. hold VOL+ the power on... does not work. I'm beginning to think something is very wrong with my Carbon.

EDIT: Hmm, OK... I'm past the Android on it's back wit red triangle... into the Android System Recovery <3e> screen... I'm assuming this isn't the Flashing Mode? I plugged the Carbon into the PC, but it didn't detect, and the Rockchip software doesn't see it either. Still confused.

The Android with Triangle = Error in the booting process
3e Recovery, actual recovery it is not flashing mode, in flashing mode you don`t see nothing on the screen, just on the rockchip tool you will see either a blue or green square

Still, you said that the tablet is not detected by the pc.
Use another usb cable, use the usb ports from the back.
What operating system do you use ?

I didn't know my 97 was entering flash mode, there are no visual signs, the screen doesn't change, it just stays black like it's not on.

I realised it was going into flash mode when it was connected to my PC via USB and I followed the instructions, I got the 'found new hardware' noise. Not the message mind. I needed to go into Device Manager where there was an unknown device and use the drivers in the Rockchip bundle to recognise the unknown device. Then the Rockchip flash tool would see it, and I could update the firmware.

So, plug your device into your PC with a USB cable, insert a paperclip in the Reset pinhole of the tablet and press the Home button, wait till you hear the found new hardware noise, check Device Manager, etc etc and hopefully you'll get there. It sounds like you definitely need to reflash the device anyway.

I tried two different USB cables and ports.. same thing. When the PC DOES detect it, it just comes up as an 'Unidentified Device' and Windows doesn't install any drivers, and I get the 'Device Failed' sounds.

It does detect sometimes... but it won't install. Windows doesn't know what the tablet is other than being 'unidentified'.

And I use Windows 7 x64.

The Rockchip flash file you download will have drivers that lets your PC recognise the unknown device.
