OfflineArchos 70 b/c eReader
Hi folks,
I think I originally posted this in the wrong place……duh !!
Sorry but I must begin by acknowledging my ignorance of most things technical. I manage to fiddle around with pcs/windows/mobiles until I generally sort out a problem, but have never had an ereader/tablet before and to save myself time messing it up and having to try and put things right again I ran a quick Google search and this seems like the best forum by far for advice.
Relevant details of my ereader/tablet (description changes depending on where I look !!)
ARCHOS 70b ereader
Model Number : A7EB
Firmware : 1.0.4
Kernel : 2.6.25
Build : V0.18.ECLAIR.eng.root.20110624.142810
Ok, here come the questions
1) Do I need to update the firmware and if so how ? I've been to the Archos site and amongst the various downloads I can't find one for a 70b ereader with the same model number as mine.
2) A lot of things I've tried to access tell me that they're not supported or that I don't have permission to access the page/download, is this because I only have the AppsLib ? I'd like to put Android Market (or something similar) onto it but really not sure of the best way to do it.
3) Is there a way to get Adobe Flash player to work on it ?
4) Can I configure it so that certain things will be stored on the SD card and others on the device itself ?
Undoubtedly I'll come across a load more questions as I go along, but hopefully you guys can help me out here ?
Oh and please make any replies simple enough for a 6 year old to understand
Thanks for reading this and possibly helping me out.

Hello Kate,
Quick answers to your questions.
1/ Looks like Archos has removed the firmware from their [[** please register to see this link **]].
I think it used to be listed in the [ HOME TABLET / EREADER ] section there.
2/ installing a custom firmware will give you Google Play (formerly Android Market) access on your tablet.
We [[** please register to see this link **]] a while ago, but it's currently removed because some problems were reported by users.
There are other options, in the previous link page comments, that recommend flashing firmwares such as the one for the BQ Voltaire which also work on the Archos 70b eReader.
3/ The Archos 70b eReader and similar machines based on the RK28x8 processor are not powerful enough to properly play Flash content. There has been some solutions, but nothing provide full and proper Flash playing capability.
4/ The default firmware on the 70b does not allow that, but this feature may be offered on the BQ Voltaire custom firmware, I'm not sure of that you'll have to check ![]()
Hope this helps.
Cheers.
