Hi everyone:

I am new here, but I think this may be the right forum to ask, as I am not getting any help in XDA.

I just bought an Archos 35 Smart Home Phone and I noticed it has no Google sync, I tryed ArcTools, but it kinda only half worked. I can add Google accounts now, but I can't sync them, and I was able to download gmail, but since it doesnt sync, I can't get e-mail.

I would also like to potentially root/install custom ROMs, can someone help me with where to start, I cant find any info.

Thanks!

If you followed ArcTools install procedure, you should have a functionning Android Market, together with a working mail sync (you'll need to download Gmail). ArcTools hasn't been tested yet with the Smart Home Phone but should work as it is a pure Gen8 device. I just got my hands on this device, so I should be able to double check soon, and correct if there are any issues.

There is no working root for Gen8 devices currently.

The best custom firmware option is probably Urukdroid, but I don't think it would work on the 35 SHP and if it does you'd probably loose the DECT functionnality.

Ok, cool, thanks.

I think there may be issues related to the SHP with the ArcTools app. I have tried all of the available packages, I get issues that are either, little to no apps installing up to a best case scenario of only some things syncing (contacts/calender)

If you are missing apps, you may want to try the Market Fix

I'll have a look at these Arctools issues when I check the 35 SHP, will keep you posted.

Yeah, from what I can tell, gmail sync doesn't work, go into gmail, confirm account is added, accounts and sync now says sync is on, but it doesn't list gmail as an option…

Spoke too soon, apparently, this time (after I did a reset Android), everything looked as though it was going the same, but all of the sudden, gmail was listed under sync, and it is working… Looks like maybe after adding th google account you have to wait 10-15 minutes for the services to appear…?

Any way of getting the unsupported apps to work? (like google books) do I have to edit my build.prop file?

You won't be able to modify system files (that includes build.prop) without root on the device. If the Market fix doesn't work, you'll have to get the application from another tablet/phone and side loading it on the machine. (just copy the APK file and execute it from the file manager)

The Archos 35 Smart Home Phone is based on the 35 IT, which is a Gen8 device, so SDE should work on it.

Have you tried [[** please register to see this link **]] ? If I remember right, this firmware should come rooted by default.

Cheers.

It's because Archos write "SDE firmware for ARCHOS Generation 8 devices:

(ARCHOS 101, 70, 43, 32, 28 internet tablet)" and not specify the magic number "35"
