Please note that Android Market installed thru ArcTools is still working on this firmware. Tested on an Archos 70 after a Reset Android procedure and ArcTools 0.49 installation (downloaded from Appslib).
Apparently Archos modified their firmware in a way that Archangel rooting method does not work anymore on this 2.3.20 firmware. The application gets stuck on “Please wait”.
If you need root access to your device, please do not flash current firmware and wait for a new workaround to be found. Flashing 2.3.20 firmware won’t let you flash older firmwares back.
Also note that this 2.3.20 is still an Android 2.2 (Froyo) and not an Android 2.3 Gingerbread firmware. Archos firmware numbers is not related to the Android Operating system version.

When will the gen8 devices will get on the latest versions of Android?? :S, this is insane
that it’s been more than a year since the gingerbread update and we’r still stuck with
Froyo and now even android 4 has been released which is compatible with all the
Android running devices as said by google…
For now Archos has just mentioned they may port Gingerbread on Gen8 devices, but there are no commitments…
Maybe there are better hopes with the Cyanogenmod port on Gen8… which still require quite some work to be usable.
hola por un error eliminè appslib de mi archos como lo puedo descargar nuevamente a mi archos pleasssssssseeeeeeee se lo agradeceria mucho si me pueden ayudar.
Hi
my archos 70 it 250GB after i copied new update file in root menu, repeatedly restart and don’t stop, turn off and ….
will any one help me? 🙁 pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I updated to this 2.3.20 crap and now my tethering will not work on my 32. Who are these French idiots anyway. This is how they pay us back from saving them from the Germans! I try to downgrade back and it fails. Do these guys actually test their stuff first?
carceron,
We understand you are upset, as everybody is when loosing some functionnality with a firmware update that is expected to correct problems and bring new features ;(
You are probably not the only one experiencing this issue and it may fixed in a coming release. In the meantime, reporting that to Archos support may help in making progress.
If you really want to install an older firmware, there is still the option of flashing SDE (with the limit it implies in term of warranty)
