There have been some delays on the initial plan to release Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) on Archos G9 devices early February. Still, ICS integration on G9 devices has made great progress and should be finalized real soon.

According to first testers feedback on a recent beta release:
- the Graphical User Interface provide smoother operation compared to Android 3.2 Honeycomb
- performance and stability has been really improved on the ICS web browser update
- face unlocking isn’t implemented (not sure it would work that well with a low resolution camera on the G9 devices)
The wait for ICS on Archos G9 should be over soon, but no release date has been given, lets hope Archos sticks to Q1 2012 as announce in their December 2011 press release. (document in French)

And the 10 G2 ?
I emailed Archos and received a response yesterday. Here is a direct quote from Tony H.
“The Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) update should be available by the end of
February.”
tick…tock…tick…tock
Thanks for your feedback.
Still I wouldn’t count too much on Febrary as the month ends … today.
Considering that the blog article talks about a beta version (probably almost final) and knowing Google firmware validation process timing, we’re more looking to something like mid March, this is my opinion.
Archos says the release date is now second week of March.
