[Mise à jour] CyanogenMod7 Android 2.3 Gingerbread avec Market et Root sur Archos 7 HTv2 (preview release)

A Froyo firmware has recently been released for Archos 7c HT by futranbg based on the work of birdiebnl from Archosfans forum, they built a pretty decent firmware for RK2818 tablets that adapts pretty well on Archos 7c HT, thanks a lot for your great work.

This custom firmware for the Archos 7cHT tablet, brings an Android 2.2 Froyo along with Android Market and root access to the device.

This firmware is specific for the Archos 7c HT (capacitive screen), if you own the earlier Archos 7HTv1, 7HTV2 models (with resistive screen) please check our Archos 7 HTv1/7HTv2 custom firmware.

Firmware download: 7cHT_22_21.zip

This firmware is specific to the Archos 7cHT and should not be installed on other devices.

Important release notes:

  • this firmware is an unofficial custom firmware not supported by Archos/Arnova
  • this firmware is assembled with binaries from various devices, it is not built from source code, which leaves limited possibilities to fix important problems and full compatibility with the Archos 7cHT is not garanteed.
  • Android Market support is partial and not all Market applications can currently be currently found
  • We are testing our custom firmwares before making them public, and we are only releasing it when it is stable enough (unless noted otherwise)
  • In case the firmware does not suit your expectations, you should always be able to
restore another firmware. Use Rockchip flashing tools in case things have really gone wrong and your device appears « bricked« .

Don’t charge when powered of, when turn on the touch screen become scazy
-Rom worked but touch screen not working?
+After boot up you may have to turn off the screen (lock), and turn it on. This should make screen work. If it’s not work, check your device was it Archos 7c, and find a suitable rom for your device.
-There are lags in menu and launcher?
+That was my false, i tried to make fancy animation and it make lag, you can turn of animation in display setting.
-Market work but still have problem?
+Try this fix http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=49470
-I want get back official rom?
+http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=53415 download official update.img and do update again.
-USB not work for me?
+When USB cable connected, you have to enable mass-storage device mode in the notification bar. In 2.1 it mount USB device automatically, now you have to do it.

This rom was a combine of Android 2.2 (7HTV2_22.21) and Archos 7c kernel, i removed something we don’t need, add something hope we like.
All credits to birdiebnl as the rom builder.

Firmware update procedure:

Step 1 – Install firmware

The first part of the procedure is similar to the one on the Arnova 10

  • Connect your device to the electricity socket, fully charge it and leave the socket connected
  • Unzip the update.img file out of the zip archive
  • Copy the img file to the root of your device
  • Unmount USB on your device, it should give a prompt similar to this one:
  • Push the Install button and follow the update procedure
  • You can also refer to our flashing procedure page for more details.

  • The first boot after flashing may take some time (few minutes), please be patient.
  • This first part of the procedure is similar to the one on the Arnova 10, that you can see on this video:

    Step 2 – Install Market

When your Archos 7cHT has started on the new Android 2.2 operating system, please configure the WIFI network to access the Internet. The tablet comes loaded with latest ArcTools release, please follow the Market installation procedure for the Android Market.:
    – Start ArcTools
    – Make sure « Default Apps & Market v2.2.7 (Android 2.2 Froyo) » is selected in the list
    – Press Download button, wait for the download to finish
    – Press Install Apps button
    – Reboot the device
    – Configure your Android Market
(this procedure is detailled on the Market installation with ArcTools page, please starting at Step 3.)

Step 3 – Apply Market fix to get all applications on Android Market

  • You will probably have a lot of applications missing in the Android Market, please apply the Android Market fix procedure to get all applications back in the Market.
  • Mounting Archos 7cHT on your PC / turning ON USB Storage

This Android 2.2 Froyo firmware does not automatically mount your tablet to your computer when connected on USB. You need to manually turn ON USB storage thru 3 simple steps:

  • Plug your Archos 7cHT to the USB device you want to connect to

  • Grab the notification area from the top of the screen, click on the USB connected line

  • Click on the Turn on USB Storage button to mount your device to your computer

  • You should get the following screen.

  • Click Turn off USB Storage button to unmount your Tablet on your computer.

    Restoring Archos 7cHT default firmware

If case you don’t like this firmware or if you just want to go back to the default stock firmware:

    1. bonjour

    2. Hey, installed it no problems, seems to work fine, but i calibrated the screen like a retard on acid assuming i can do it again later, but, well…. i cant. Cant select anything really, and now i cant boot from sd, any suggestions? i tried the reset button on back as originally doing this would reset calibration yadaa yadaa……

    3. Hi. I’m having problems installing the ArcTools. After installing this update firmware (Cyanogenmod-7.2.0-RC0-RK2818-KANG), I installed ArcTool , but i cannot download Google Apps because i get this message: “Error 25: file copy failed – Archive file cannot be accessed. please check that your device is not mounted on USB”. My device is not mounted (USB is disabled by this firmware, and the cable is disconnected…)

Is there any workaround? If not – is there any other way i can download and install the Gmail application on the tablet? that is the main thing i want…

      • You can install Gmail thru Google Play / Android Market. This CM7 firmware is quite experimental is I suggest that you better try a stable firmware like here:
If you have flashed the CM7 firmware, you’ll probably need to flash the recommended firmware above with Rockchip Flashing tool as CM7 did break the normal way of flashing (by just copying the update.img file on the tablet).

        • Thanks for the quick response! I’ll try it.

FYI – the fact that USB is disabled and new image loading will be harder was a bit hidden in the text (after installing several firmwares in a row, i missed that detail…). the Froyo 2-2 didn’t handle hebrew well, hence i came to this version, which handles hebrew great, and only then realized reversing to other firmewars will be harder…

          • Sorry to bug you further, but i’m stuck…

I have tried several times now to install gmail through reaching Google Play on the browser (since i don’t have the Google Apps installed). it tells me « This app will be downloaded to your device shortly », but nothing happens on my Archos… Any other advice how to achieve installing Gmail on this CM7 firmware?

      • Work on firmwares for Archos 7HTv2 and Arnova G1 firmwares are a bit on hold these days, with focus on newer models running on Rockchip RK2918 CPU (Arnova G2 and Arnova G3). Hopefully some improvements can still be made on older firmwares, as time will permit.

    4. set itself this firmware first all seemed to work fine! but after I put the SD card and started watching movies, I noticed that the video slows down! decided to change back to its former firmware, but it did not work! using Rockchip Flashing tool did not work too well as on my windows 7 x86 is not possible to install the driver for this device (the driver is not designed to run on this platform) writes refusal. I pray help me the way I was told that there are some so-called alternative driver to work on windows 7! If you know anything please help!

      • Hi skarfer

        Try :
        – right clic on short cut « Rockchip Flashing tool »
        – clic on property
        – tab compatibility
        – Compatibility mode
run this program => Windows XP

My computer is in French, so I am not sure you will read exactly the same messages, but you will understand 😉

I don’t try on this program but this solution runs well when the drivers were built to XP
        Good luck !

    5. A good job. I’d tested it on my old 7HTV2 and I prefer this firmware than others (Froyo or improvement Eclair). The only thing I missed is the configuration of my USB physical keyboard. How to configure my keyboard to definitively adopt cyanogen firmware ?

      • sfinxx1,
The video is accelerated at the begining (when you see « 10x time lapse » in the top right corner) during the firmware flashing and rebooting part which are quite long…
The rest of the video plays at normal speed. Actually, the tablet is not that reactive, as there are many delays when touching the screen. This can probably be improved a little by tweaking the CM7 settings.

    6. does that works on zipy fun???
i have one and i just want to « destroy » that ugly android version and quite limited…
i have a simple problem with tv exit…
(it’s built-in into sound exit and uses a simple video cable like any camera)
      i don’t know how to install it…
      can you help me???

      • Ismael Miguel,
It’s hard to find the Zipy Fun specs on the web, appartently it is very similar to the
Acorp EM501R which runs on a Rockchip CPU. First need to confirm it really uses a RK2818 CPU and not an older one. Then get the device firmware to extract the boot, kernel … to build a full firmware update with CM7.

      • To my knowledge there is currently no CM7 port for Arnova G2 models.
Still, the G2 models running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, having CM7 is not a priority. Regarding the Android Market on the Arnova 7G2, it’s still in the works, will post an announce when ready.
