Rename the file to firmware_archos_android_gen8.aos and execute it thru a file manager or copy it to /storage

You need to copy the update.img file at the root of your device.
Check the detailed procedure from Arnova website:

Make sure you have the update.img for the right device before copying.
I have been trying to update the operation system on my Arnova 101b, I’ve downloaded the file recommended on the Arnova website, but can’t work out how to “execute” the file. Do I need a non standard file manager ?

According to Engadget, Archos releasing Gen9 tablets with Android 3. So looks like an update for Archos 101 Gen8 may be out of the question!
used the gapps4archos2.apk (froyo) sign into your gmail email account first before market place was the only way it worked for me but i lost my f@cking data grrr
. youtube doesnt work with this one at all i dont know why
